I've just moved them out of the greenhouse (some for the summer, some just for now). I've got 10 of the beasties (excluding the mother plant). all grown from seed. the oldest is probably about 6.

what on earth am I going to do with them all...?

By coincidence I moved one of my two wisteria grown from seed about 6 years ago out and planted it under a tree a few days ago. They are supposed to be a white flowered type, but whether I'll get to see it or not is another question, as I found they are likely to take 20 years to first flowering.

they aren't ideal as presents (well, not for people you'll see again) "hi, have a shrub, it won't do anything for another 15 years and then it might flower. maybe"

Actually the wisteria foliage is rather beautiful in its own right and if you are near the start of you're gardening hobby, 15 years isn't really that long.

I moved here in 1983 and not knowing much about it planted a tulip tree near the drive (bought about 6' high at a plant auction). I found out later that they take roughly 20 years to start flowering. Now its about 50' high and sort of an adolescent, but its flowered regularly for the last 5 years or so, though you would really need a hot air balloon or similar to get the most out of the display.
