Storing tulip bulbs in pots.

Hello. As the thread name implies, I wish to know how to store the bulbs I have that are grown in pots.

My plan is as follows :-. Once all foilage has died back cut off from soil level. Let the pots dry out. Stack the pots in the shed with soil and bulbs still in the pots. Then in the winter tip out the contents. Refill pots with fresh compost and replant bulbs.

Would this plan work? I could just mulch the pots thickly and bunch up somewhere sheltered but I don't fancy empty pots out on display

That would work. Or if you want to use the pots for something else dry the bulbs (with foliage on) and store somewhere nice can't reach them. Or just plant out in the garden and get new ones for pots next year.

Yes, that would work fine G4D. I generally put my pots of tulips and little daffs under my thick hedge where it is very dry, and forget about them till autumn, when I shake them out and repot. Or if I want to use the pots, I shake them out when they've finished flowering and lay them, leaves and all, in a seed tray in the shed to dry out, and again, forget about them till autumn.

Ok cool. I don't really need the pots as I have plenty to go around. Glad to hear it can just put them away aomewhere

I left my little tete a tetes in pots over winter, brought them out in spring and they flowered no problem. I'm guessing I should change the soil this year as I presume all the goodness in it will be gone?

Here, for some reason, tulip bulbs are lifted after the foliage has completely turned brown and it is recommended they be stored in the vegetable drawer of the refridgerator for about six weeks before planting.
