Help with Rose

I have recently been told to look after this rose whilst my Dad is in hospital but despite the new shoots it does not look at all happy with yellow leaves

The roots were growing out of the pot so i put it on a new compost bed

I have no idea which Rose it is but it was covered in red flower and now looks very sorry for itself

I hesitate to say this, but... are you sure that's a rose? It looks a lot like a camelia to me? Have a google and see what you think.

If a camelia, it needs ericaceous (i.e for acid-loving) compost and may benefit from an ericaceous feed?

Funny looking leaves on it in the second image, pretty sure the first image shows deficiency in something, so new compost and a rose feed will probably liven it up.

Sounds like you may have overwatered the rose, or that for some reason it can't get any oxygen to its roots. I had a rose go like that once, and it turned out that the ph level was too high, so I put coffee grounds on it, and it improved

Looks more like a camelia japonica to me. They need special ericaceous compost/fertiliser as they prefer acidic soil.

It DOES look like a camelia! I didn't even twig that when I looked at the pic lol Similar flowers though, so it's an easy mistake to make

A proper schoolboy error , my dads an awesome gardener in his 80s and I have just started to have a go last year , he has been ill and hospitalised since january this year so I am trying to keep some of his plants going
I took his Pelargonium cuttings from his windowsill in January and have just about managed to keep these going but this " Rose" lol had me stumped

So if I repot in some fresh ericaceous compost it should help ?

Its a camellia - and roses wouldn't be covered in flowers this early in the year. Look for thorns - if there aren't any, its not a rose (with a few exceptions).
I have a few camellias and there are yellow leaves on all of them (just checked).
Don't worry too much about it - it won't die.

No thorns just a lack of knowledge !

I am going to repot using the correct compost and I am thinking to site on the corner of a NW wall so it will get some late sunshine or do I go the other end NE so it will get early morning sunshine or are they both wrong ?

Not early morning sunshine.
If camellia flowers are frosted its best to let them thaw slowly or the flowers will be damaged. Mine face west or north and have very little sun in the winter.
