Saving compost

Today I was filling a container with compost and as I don't have any polystyrene, so instead of using brick or stone, I used empty milk cartons to save some compost, which also keeps the weight down, so if you need something to give you some bulk you can use plastic bottles and remember keep the lids on

Quite a good idea rary -i like the idea of keeping the weight of a large container down. For smaller pots broken pieces of polystyrene packing work the same way. Taking about saving compost - I never throw old compost out — any annuals grown in containers and pots or grow bags, I at the end of the season pull out the finished plants and put the old compost into a black dustbin. The following spring I throw in some growmore and mix it all up. Recycled compost ready to go again. At the end of the day compost is only needed to help anchor plants - liquid feed or otherwise throughout the growing season will provide the nutrients.

Saving compost - hoarding/tight with it,not in the throwing it away sense,nobody throws it away
You could cut the base off the bottle bury it so it protrudes 3” then water into it if you want,Ive done something similar with my cucumbers to keep the stems dry,keeps all the leaves dry too unless you stand from afar & aim badly
