  • Today it’s a Penstemon that has finally made an effort to flower. Better late than never!

    • This variety of kniphofia is called ‘Ice Queen’ and indeed is majestic. Flowering now whilst the more well known red varieties have finished. The flowering period is lengthened by new spires emerging as previous ones fade.

          • This is a nice pink begonia which is flowering profusely at the moment. Susie insisted on posing in the background so I will allow her, her moment of fame. For those of you who watch Gardeners’ World you will know Monty’s two dogs follow him around in his garden. Susie is just the same and bless her - she never walks over a flower bed or digs.

There are another 2 bulbs in the GH. Well worth the money, without the dahlias and glads

                • Today’s flower is a morning glory from a packet of mixed seeds.
Big mistake, I planted it to climb up the outside of my new fruit cage. It has actually crept through and started strangling the poor rasps.
Too pretty to yank out though!
But I’ll plant it somewhere else next year.

According to the RHS they can, if after flowering, the leaves are fed, then the bulb has a dormant period, and you wake it up again in September. These hadn't read that they were meant to flower at Chr****** .

I was going to do it the other day though to be honest -but forgot
