Mint & its wandering ways

Hi there everyone.
I'm giddy with excitement that after 8 months of hard work my allotment is starting to look something like an allotment rather than a weed covered mess of broken bricks. Last summer i bought some Moroccan Mint and its currently in a pot. I know that mint shouldn't be put into a garden but could i put it in a raised pallet collar surrounded by weed membrane... or would it still walk? & any other advice on another query would be appreciated. On one side of the allotment its banked up in the corner. Its nearly 1ft higher. I dont know what on earth has happened there. I think its the remnants of a dug out base of something. Hubby has tried to move the soil & flatten it as much as poss but what could we use to cover it up. Thanks everyone R x

Not grown that particular one, but I tried to contain some Mints in sunken pots with the bottoms knocked out, it still spread everywhere though. Weed membrane is for the most part, not that effective I have found, doesn't seem to take much to get through it, I have stopped using it now.

I also put it in a pot in the ground, although didn’t take the bottom out. It did grow pretty tall and spread a bit but it was manageable.

I ever put it in the ground. Big pots are the way to go but it will need to be repotted every year to keep it nice and fresh.

I have my mint in pots, but I might be brave and put some in the tiny borders that I have around the pond and along the wall I built. I love mint, so I can't really have too much

I like it in the paths and so-called lawn because it smells so good when trampled and mown.

Same here VC - I have thyme in my path for the very same reason!

Corsican mint might be better for paths as it's shorter, bit like thyme. I keep losing mine though. Anyone else growing it successfully?

Mint yes, thyme no, it always dies. I haven't really experienced the mint taking over, I expect we eat enough of it that it doesn't get the chance.

I bought some Russian mint in 2002 and it escaped from the pot. I let it grow wherever it likes, which it does!

It's a bit like spearmint/garden mint, VC. In fact I can't really notice much difference.

I ordered a random selection of 12 mixed mints from Amaz0n for £14.99. I bet they'll all be ones I have already.
