    Just found this Forum !

Just taken delivery of some Sutton Safron bulbs.

Complete novice here to some very stupid questions :-

The bulb has some very thin fronds almost like fine hair at the thin top.

The bottom seems to be blunt and with a small circle in the middle of it.

I assume the blunt end goes in the hole I made 15cm deep in the earth that the frond end at the top ?

Or have I planted them upside down ?

I've got a rather lovely herb'n'spice book, and luckily, before I culled most of my seeding pot marigold plants to the bonfire site this afternoon (because I don't want them self-seeding all over my kitchen garden in situ or via the compost heap) I read that their dried petals are culinarily very valuable, and often used in the place of Saffron.
So I picked all of the remaining newly-opening flowerbuds, de-petalled them onto a tray, and have dried them in the bottom oven of the Rayburn this evening.

I shall jar them and use them this Autumn/Winter, and if I'm in the slightest bit impressed at all, you'll be the jolly first to know.... Obviously

        Hello and welcome
It seems to me that you have planted them correctly but I would plant and treat them as any crocus, 15 cm is far to deep to me.
        My best regards
        Don Vincenzo

Anyone know if saffron cocus (sativa) will grow in turf, like common ornamenal crocus does?

Cricky 35 bulbs seem a lot, dont think I need that many was thinking around 12 would do. Did all your 35 survive and produce?
