  • Bay leaves turning brown

I have two bay leaf treees. Brought both indoors. On eis doing fine - new shoots and leaves appearing. The other is not so good - leaves turning brown, looks to my inexperienced eye that it is ailing if not dying. Both are kept in same place.

    Any advice welcomed. Thanks.

They are pretty hardy Does the Cooking. It might be too warm for them indoors. I have a 6ft bay outside my kitchen door (to right ofpicture.) You always get a few brown leaves underneath which die off in the course of the year, but generally speaking it is thriving on a very windy corner. It is regularly cut back hard as I use the leaves not only in cooking but for church flower arranging. Maybe you're killing it with kindness?

Thanks Flummery - one of them is going out with the cat. I've always wanted a bay tree the size of the one you have. When I learn how to post a picture I'll put it on site.

Memo to self - must get cat.

Put it outside the house up against a shading wall with a nice duvet round it. Central heating is great for killing outdoor plants.
