I planted my Rosemary seeds two and a half weeks ago and so far not a peep. I planted in a pot which is currently on kitchen windowsill, I did the same with Parsley, Chive, Sage and Basil seeds and they are all doing fine. Not sure what I'm doing wrong. I've never grown Rosemary before, how long does germination usually take?

I just googled it- mixed results- some say 5-15% viability for the seed
- prechilled in fridge
- dry after germinating
- 14 days to 3 months for germination(!!!!)
- 20C for germination
Never tried it myself!
If you succeed let us know- you'll certainly have greener fingers than me!!

you might find cuttings a better option they take really easy that was the first real gardening thing i did, might be wot got me hooked. A lady on the way to school had a big bush as part of her hedge i just pulled out a handfull of sprigs and when i got home cut them to about 3in then pulled off a few leaves and stuck it in some compost in a sandwich bag with the top tided. 3 weeks later they had all rooted.I'd rather regret the things i've done than regret not doing them at all.

But WAIT...!!!
Don't Panic, rosemary does take a little while to germinate, the seed coating is quite thick.
Parsley, Chive, Sage and Basil seeds actually germinate quite quickly so it gives a disproportionate slant on things.

Rosemary is not the easiest herb to grow from seed. In fact I gave up last year and bought a couple of plants from a garden centre and took loads of cuttings from them - much easier and more succesful.
One of my seed catalogues makes the following observation - approx 900 seeds per gram, 10g (9000 seeds !) required for 1000 9cm pots - so that tells you what the germination is like.Rat
