  • New herb bed

I have grown herbs in pots for past few years - sage, thyme, rosemary, oregano and parsley. I am going to create a new raised bed 1msq for herbs.... which herbs other than those would you recommend putting in it?

looks like you have a good starting point
chives -- very hardy and flower up very nicely, although you may want to de-head the flowers before they go to seed to stop it spreading too much.
avoid mint as it's grows too vigorously. i keep mine in a seperate pot
dill(annual) and fennel (perennial) are also useful, especially if you enjoy fish.
corriander grows like mad when the sun is shinning enough.
basil is also essential imho but may be better suited to in the green house as a companion to tomatoes or a sunny windowledge

Mainly - grow what you will use - do you want mainly culinary, or also medicinal plants, or maybe are you into crafty things or making up your own beauty products, or...??

Apart from what's already been suggested -
Have mint, just not in the bed with the rest!
Lavender smells heavenly, and is quite useful stuff.
Chamomile smells lovely, the flowers (but NOT the leaves) are great for tea - but I think this may need more space than you can give it in a 1msq bed.

Otherwise, the essentials are already covered I think. I'm trying garlic chives for the first time this year as I love garlic, and if it is as good as I hope it will soon be an essential too!

Warning: I have a dangerous tendency to act like I know what I'm talking about.
