How do you harvest it?



Dig the whole plant up?

I really know nothing about growing horseradish, know a lot of people used to have a patch on their allotments when I was young and keen in the 70's!

Now in possesion of "food for free" as recommended on another thread it states,horseradish is indiginous and to harvest you dig up the whole root,chop the woody structure to obtain a section.I guess you take a bit and replant the rest,note when harvesting"wild" roots you can be prosecuted unless you own the land or have the landowners permission,it says.

Wilkos sell them, but I have also seen them in garden centres alongside asparagus and rhubarb. They are sold in bags.

I bought one from Wlko's last year, but it must be some exotic japanese variety or something, because it definitely doesn't look like dock leaves!!

Hi i just dug up some horseradish and grated it ready to make a sauce and believe it or not it has no taste no smell just bland ,any body got any ideas why ???

Just a thought.........maybe it's better after a bit of frost?, same as parsnips and swedes!

Horseradish

I put my Horseradish in a raised bed but it got out by burrowing under the path and pops up where it wants. Look out for the variegated form with cream and green leaves.
Shred peeled root and mix into sigle cream with salt an pepper, goes with roast beef - a real treat.
