  • new growth turning black on recently planted bay tree

    Hi there,

I planted a couple of bay trees a month ago the hole was well prepared and plenty of organic manure was added and they were watered them in well. i bought them last year but wasnt in a position to plant them out so left them in pots till now. throughout the winter they had a fleece jacket and were watered frugally

In their new positions they get sun for a good portion of the day when its about than a week ago and and they have been watered every second
day since if it hasnt rained in between.

Now a couple of them have black tips on new growth which crumbles in your hand when I touched them.It is as though the tips have been burned by heat and the leaf tip has become black and brittle. I cannot think that the sun has been strong enough this time of year .. so I can only conclude that I have a problem.

Do they need more water? I'm afraid to over water them

    is it bay leaf sucker?

    Nieuwe pagina 1

    is it plant stress?

frost? there hasnt been any frost since i planted them though

I'm just not sure what to do. Can anyone help? I don't want to lose
all of them before they even have a chance.

    Thanks for any help.

Sounds like a temperature related thing to me! Where do you garden? Can you give us your location? Are they in a frost pocket, even if there's been no frost? They don't like drafty areas either. Did you harden them off sufficiently? They don't need a lot of water so could you be over watering?

More questions than answers I know, sorry!
