  • General Herb Question

    Hi,

Were new to veg growing but have grown some herbs this year from seed in the greenhouse.

We have one pot of basil, one of corriander and one parsley.

Should I now plant these outside - will they continue to grow? Or is this something that will die off and have to be started again from scratch next year?

    Thanks in advance.

I grow all of these as annuals and the corriander and basil are tender anyway. Currently I have corriander and parsley outside but I find that basil doesn't do too well outside so mine is on the kitchen window ledge.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Coriander doesn't transplant well and tends to bolt. I get better results by sowing direct outside. I grow basil on the windowsill. The parlsey can be planted out now and will last righ through the winter.

Parsley ~ grows well outside, and self-seeds every year.
Basil ~ I just can't grow it, indoors or out.
Coriander ~ grows well outdoors, but bolts (flowers) if you transplant it. Sow it where you want it to stay.

Thanks for all your replies ! Very helpful indeed.

Will put my basil in the kitchen and plant the parsley and coriander outside with my mint and chives.

make sure you put your mint in a pot/bucket or else it will strangle everything else. Even your house.
