  • Another Lavender Problem

I have two very large lavender bushes in my garden, which were trimmed back last year after flowering and came back fine to flower this year. However, Shortly after flowering, the flowers dried out. At this point, we weren't in the current heat wave. I have started watering the bushes, in case it was a watering problem, but I have NEVER had to water lavender before! A couple of new flowers have appeared, which look ok, but the bush mostly looks awful, as the dried flowers look, well, dead!

They're in different places and both get a decent amount of sun and bee visits. Any ideas? Was hoping to make lavender shortbread this year, but will have to nick some, now!

Were they pruned back into old wood? That might be the problem.

No, they were cut back to old growth, but just to keep the shape, not down to the wood by a long way. They were absolutely fine until about 3 days after flowering and the foliage still looks fine - never seen it before!

same here two identical lavender bushes in baskets - both been fine suddenly one is dead - all dried up, they are in the same place, watered at the same time - very strange
