I have a spearmint plant by the back door which i regularly take a few leaves from to make mint tea, yum. Once the weather turns a bit cooler the leaves will die back but you could keep some mint indoors or plant it ready for next year. Remember it is invasive though so you may want to keep in in a pot.

    Banana mint.......

Welcome to Jekka's Herb Farm | Banana Mint | Mentha arvensis 'Banana'

    never tried it myself.
Imagination is everything, it is a preview of what is to become.

Apple mint is fun and furry
        Ginger mint smells good too
        Black peppermint is REEEALLY invasive!

I moved a great lump of mint from one space on the lottie to another [by the shed] and another of lemon balm to sit next to it - just last week. Both are hardy and will grow back next year.

What do you mean is it too late? Are you trying from seed or cuttings? Or are you moving it somewhere?

If you put your location into your profile, it will help those that live closer to advise you more appropriately.

I have had a banana mint, but it kinda got over taken by the peppermint

now I have a large patch of peppermint and some chocolate mint which make a decadent mint tea

I've found various mints on ebay-thought about giving them a try. Not seen banana mint though

Now this mint sound like a silly mint question but I have two mints in my garden. One is quite strong and on the verge of bitter and one is nice and is lovely in chuntneys to go with spicy curries.

Does anyone have any tips on how to figure out which type of mint they are?

I'd like to get hold of cuttings of the nice one to have more mint on hand for chuntneys.

Did someone say they'd tried lemon mint? Is it nice?

I have a plant called Pineapple mint...that's really good for tea,
I also have a plant that I grew from one I bought in Asdas!

I kept watering it on the windowsill and chopping bits off when I needed it and it just kept on growing. I gave it a bit of BabyBio and popped it into a bigger pot and it got bigger and bigger and in the Spring I planted it outside where it's gone err.....pun intended... BANANAS! *laughing*
Seriously...I have masses of the stuff now

I have pineapple mint which I use in teas and the bog standard stuff which I cook with. They're both in pots and will die down over winter but will be taking a bit of the standard one inside in the next week or so to enable me to use it over winter on the window ledge.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Does mint 'grow' from cuttings? A while ago I bought some mint from a local grocers and picked the leaves and placed the stalks in water. About 10/14 days later I noticed roots and planted the mint out. Now I have mint in my garden but I have no idea what type it is.

Can the same be done with all mints and if so when it the best time to do it?

Most mint will do this. It's a bit late this year, but if you keep it indoors overwinter to give it time to establish it might work.

Re identification - Only thing you can do is either sniff it, or ask the greengrocer what type it was. It is likely to have been "garden mint" or "common mint" rather than anything fancy. You could always take a bit of it to a local garden centre and do some "comparative sniffing"!!!
