  • Mint Tea

    Hi,
Does anyone know which variety of mint is used in the tea served in the middle east, and where I might get some?

    I don't know.
I do make my own though , with a mixture of ordinary garden mint, chocolate mint, and spearmint, and peppermint.

I can only drink peppermint tea now, so if i have no mint leaves I have twinings, but the homemade is best

I'd take a guess at Moroccan (sp?!) mint being the one. It's quite strong, like a good Arabian tea

I got mine off ebay-small plant for under £2.00

It's not just mint in that tea ... there's green tea in it too, it's a mixture.

The mint used is Mentha spicata (spearmint) 'Nana', the Nana mint of Morocco possesses a clear, pungent, but mild aroma and is an essential ingredient of Touareg Tea.

The tea part of mint tea is gunpowder green tea. Gunpowder is the favorite green tea of Morocco and the Middle East, where it is commonly prepared with mint and lots of sugar. https://www.tinyteas.com/product_inf...3f379863f35dbc

I think it's in the RHS Plantfinder as Mentha spicata var. crispa 'Moroccan'

These are the suppliers that it lists for that plant: http://www.rhs.org.uk/rhsplantfinder....asp?ID=155862

Ahhh - I have never tasted mint tea anywhere near as good as moroccan mint tea anywhere other than in Tangier when I went there to work for a while. The smell of it as a biker rode past you with a huge budle of it was wonderful.

Funny how its made me remember those times, this thread - I often wonder what my life would have been like had hubbie not asked me out soon after I arrived back. I had just told work during the debrief that I had loved it out there and I would like to be considered for a permanent position out there as never had I felt so comfortable in a foreign country and then things progressed with our relationship and before I know it here I am married with two kids!

The first night at the hotel - I went for a meal with a client and upon my return found all my sanitary towels, soap etc had all been stolen! I never did anything about it - felt sorry for the people who needed to take such basic (to us in the UK anyway) items.

Anyhow enough of my ramblings - good luck in the search - I may well have to have a go too now.

P.S. What do you call a good looking arab?

            Asif !!!!

(no offence here I just enjoy the play on words - there were actualy quite a few good looking gentlemen there )
