  • How Many Seeds Do you Sow?

    Hello Folks,

Just a general question on the amount of seeds you sow. Do you do 3 – 4 plants of each herb to last the year , succession sowing, or is one plant sufficient for your needs?

    As Always Thanks
    Cheers

    Danny

    Depends what it is.
I use a lot of parsley & chives, but hardly any rosemary

Depends on what it is and why I'm using it....

For example, leaf coriander succession sow as I use the leaves. Seed coriander, I use to companion plant with carrots, so bulk sow and chop back all year round and leave at the end of the season to reseed and grow back next year/collect the seeds for cooking.

        Hi TS,

So for parsley & chives do you sow all at once or succession?

Chives are perennial, so you do them once and leave them.

Parsley is cut-and-come again, so you don't need to keep sowing it. Just sow "enough" for your own use, and pick as needed.

It's not like a carrot, where once you've picked it, it's gone

Ask yourself which herbs do you use most-last year I planted loads of parsley and dill.
I had some dill left, but run out of parsley about September so this year will be even more parsley...
