I found a green sprout on a lump of fresh ginger a few weeks ago so potted it up and left it in the airing cupboard. I think it's dead now, all mushy Maybe my fingers arn't green enough?

I went to my local supermarche, and looked at the ginger lumps. I found a bit that looked like it had potential, and paid about 20p for it, probs less.
Took it home towards the back end of last year, around October I think, and just chucked it in a pot with general compost.
Its now huge although hibernating for winter. I hardly watered it at all over winter, but during the summer watered it regularly, and had it inside a little plastic greenhouse inside my greenhouse (Russian doll business). In the winter I moved it inside my propogator, inside the plastic greenhouse inside the greenhouse (Double Russian doll) but when I left home a fortnight ago, it was fine.
I have found it pretty easy to grow.

I have a root in a pot in the kitchen - I planted it last year and it didn't do much but it now has 2 shoots on it.

I grew one before Piskie - kept it in the kitchen on the windowsill the whole time. It made a lovely show at about 4 foot tall, I must have planted that one too late in the year though as it didn't do much else. Hopefully the one that is shooting now might flower or something (if they do flower that is)
