  • growing in sand

I have been given a half barrel which is full of sand. Are there any herbs that would grow in sand.

sand doesn't hold water so not really, unless you mix 20% with 80% compost or soil, that will work

I'd dig half out and mix with compost and grow carrots in there.

I have a bed with sand and compost mix that I sowed carrots in yesterday. But if Muslimgrower is right then I have too much sand in it!

I'm not sure whether it will work in uk however , I have seen tomatoes growing on a cordoned off area of beach in portugal but i think the success of that may have been the climate lol
