I have found it really helpful to read through the threads on here, but although I now know some herbs grow happily in shade I have a wall that is almost always in light shade. It is close to the kitchen and i wanted to plant up some window boxes. Is there anything that definitely won't grow here?

I've got a fairly shady spot out the back where I have a few herbs planted.
The rosemary, marjoram, sage and thyme haven't been overly happy there, but they haven't died either, just a bit straggly The mint and lemon balm have both been happy enough.
I think the soil is important, mine are in well drained soil, fairly shallow. If they're in the shade AND waterlogged, they won't survive it. Also, it's possible that the flavour won't be as strong without heat from the sun.
      Hope that helps

I would have thought you could do a bit of experimenting and see if you can grow any there
