I've been trying to grow Bergamot without any success for several years, I don't know what goes wrong, I buy a plant, put it in the garden and then watch it die - I've always wanted one of the red ones - just lovely.

    I grow and use:
    Bay - in cooking
Rosemary - in cooking and in shampoo
Lavenders - because they smell wonderful
Lemon Balm - makes a nice tea, in cooking and just sniffing it!
Lady's Mantle - I love the plant - but also an infusion as a bust lifter!
    Borage - in Pims!
Clove pinks - so pretty with edible flowers
Comfrey - as a fertiliser, in the compost bin and for softening/repairing skin
Soapwort - to make a gentle shampoo or face wash
Chives - in potato salad - yum
    Parsley - in cooking
    Golden Marjoram
    Thymes - in cooking
    Feverfew - because it's pretty
Bronze Fennel - fennel seed tea
Sage - in cooking and in shampoo
Yarrow - in the compost bin (speeds up composting)
    Tarragon - in cooking
Chamomile - infusions for skin, but also good for the compost bin
    Calendula - more edible flowers
Mints - in cooking and as a tea for indigestion
Salad Burnet - infusion for sunburn
French marigolds - in the greenhouse to deter whitefly

Did I mention I love my herbs and am slightly obssessed - I think in a former life I was a very strange old lady that scared young children!
Life is too short for drama & petty things!
So laugh insanely, love truly and forgive quickly!

Well I think on my list to buy now is bergamot, lemon balm, borage, yarrow, lemon verbena, marsh mallow, dill, angelica, chervil, pot marigold, coriander, hyssop, sorrel, salad burnet, comfrey, feverfew, heartsease and sweet violet.

Now just need to find somewhere that sells them and somewhere to put them

        This year I have:

thyme, 1 lemon and 3 common, although one is a compact variety
        sage: 1 common, 1 variegated
lavenders: only 2 because I had to pull out old plants that had got relly woody and straggly. Plan to buy many more.
Chives, coming into flower, loads of buds on it.
Bronze fennel which surpisingly survived being trampled by my dogs.
        Rosemary
        Oregano
        Marjoram
(Curled parsley - waiting for seeds to germinate)

They are all in my north facing front garden, and I have roses, various bulbs, ornamental alliums, honeysuckle. Trying to gradually plant up with perennials so I have constant round cover once plants are matured. Got a bit neglected last year and buttercup took over. Clearing and replanting is in progress. Sowed some echinacea earlier today, meant to do it a few weeks ago but couldn't find the seeds.
Got candytuft, cornflowers and sunflowers as seedlings but not ready to go out there yet, sweet peas too still to be planted out.

All 3 varieties of thyme has germinated-lots of wee seedlings so I uncovered them and waiting impatiently for them to grow bigger
No sign of another herbs though.

I haven't got many at the moment:

Rosemary (of which I need more, I use tons and my 2 small bushes can't keep up!)
            Thyme x 2 types
            Mint (grows like flippin weeds!)
            Chives
            Sage
            Basil x 2 varieties
            Lavender
            Flat leaf Coriander

I must keep an eye out for some new ones I can get going. I want a bay tree but they seem to rather expensive.

Wow what a lot of herbs people here are growing, makes me wanna get out in the garden, dig it up and plant loads
It's unfortunate i can't do anything to the garden- oh well at least i've got my little herb pot which contains chives, basil and coriander in the house (Suppose it's a start)

Hopefully something will grow in it this time!

Basil is a half hardy annual and needs to be sown each year. It's usually kept in a pot on the kitchen windowsill for ease of use!

I would have thought that most herbs are fine to grow outside in the garden?! I grow mine in a herb pot in the house so i can just pick the leaves off while cooking and it looks quite pretty too

                                3 types of thyme
                                2 types of mint
                                2 types of sage
                                2 types of fennel
Rosemary (the same but a bush and a creeping type)
                                Bay
                                Oregano
                                Margoram
                                Chamomile
                                Some basil in pots indoors

I also have some others on the plot - tarragon, rosemary, margoram, fennel.

And I have seeds (which I have just not had time to sow) for more herbs - french parsley, coriander, mixed basil and chervil.
