  • Hardy Herbs

Can someone tell me which herbs are hardy, please.

I'm going to buy some small pots of herbs at the garden centre, but not sure which ones I can harden off and plant outside just now.

I know Chives are hardy, but that's it!

    Thanks!

Hi Jenegade, chives are hardy as you say, rosemary, bay, oregano, mint, curry plant, sage (can be killed off though with a bad winter) lemon balm, thyme, bronze fennel. Hope this helps

I have found that rosemary can also be killed off in a bad winter in its first year [mine grown from seed 2 years ago were this year] Parsley is also hardy as is all that MrsC mentioned in my experience :-)
Sent from my pc cos I don't have an i-phone.

Although parsley is pretty hardy I find that it doesn't taste as nice the following year so I always tend to grow fresh from seed every spring.

Some of us live in the past, always talking about back then. Some of us live in the future, always planning what we are going to do. And, then there are those, who neither look behind or ahead, but just enjoy the moment of right now.

Which one are you and is it how you want to be?

Must be something with the rosemary-both of my plants died this winter. If I get some new ones, should I protect them somehow from the frost?

I grow my herbs in pots outside the back door. In winter I move them all into the cold greenhouse which keeps them going for longer and gets them started earlier in the spring. Only lose the tender ones even after a hard winter.
