Will mint and lemonbalm grow happily together?

  • #2
I can't see why not- although it'd be a bit fiddly separating out the different leaves when it's needed in the kitchen- I can't imagine they would stay in separate areas, but entwine their roots eventually

I read somewhere that you should not grow different types of mint plants together because they will taint each others different flavors! Yet some people appear not to worry and have a mint garden with several types all rubbing together. I would think that with mint and lemon balm one will flavor the other.

It appears that today I am remembering lots of things that I have read in the past, not sure if its a good thing or not lol

Yes, they are both a bit thuggish! I've got mine side by side, but, I sank 2 plastic pots in the ground (with the bottoms cut off) and planted one plant into each. That way, the roots are contained, but you don't have to worry about watering so much and the pots are hidden.

They will entwine and the flavours will be affected as with all members of the mint family, keep them apart if you can
