  • Horseradish Query

    Hi folks
I planted some horseradish thongs in the hotel garden a while back but nothing to be sen yet. Whilst I know that they need to root first, how long is normal before I can expect to see foliage ? I've never grown this before so completely clueless on the subject.

Mine were planted a good while ago SR (couple of years) but I seem to recall I had growth after about 3-4 weeks I think??
I have mine in plastic containers rather than in the deck for obvious reasons, so dont know if that would make any difference in foliage showing.

      Hi

I've not grown any from thongs, but we dig ours out to try and get rid and the first foliage was back this week. We dug down about a foot and covered the ground with cardboard, and it has pushed that aside blithely without a care in the world.

I'm sure it will be up soon.

I planted one of those roots from a DIY store in a tub at the end of March, and (finally) the first leaves are appearing now.
After everybody else complaining what a thug it is, I thought it was typical that I couldn't get it to grow when I wanted it, but finally there are signs of life!!!

I bought a root from Wilkos and put it in a 50cm pot on 10th Feb, first sign of growth above ground was noted on 1st April, which is about 6 weeks. Not particularly exciting to look at, but the prospect of making my own fresh horseradish sauce in a few months time has me salivating

This thread reminded me to check mine, I planted 5 thongs about 6 weeks and 3 of the thongs are only now showing signs of growth. Planted mine to so that about an inch was above the soil.
