Growing Mint

I have today bought two medium sized mint plants, I did read an article which said that mind can re-grow from broken roots, is this true? and if so to make more mint plants is it an idea to break some of the root away?

Yes, I just planted a few new mint plants in pots from the roots of last year's stock. Very easy.

Mint is know to be invasive (will spread) so best to keep it in a container or if in ground put in a pot with bottom removed before you plant. Coriander is the same. Unless of course you want loads of mint etc.

Coriander isn't the same, it dies back each winter and re-germinates from seed heads that are left on the plant. Mint spreads through the root system and has been known to regrow from stems that have been knocked off, and blown across the path [in our garden].

I pull put strips if mint including the root and repot them and they grow.

Ming grows easily from root or stem cuttings. My favourite is chocolate mint sent by a fellow grape

Thanks for replies, have decided to plant them in some metal buckets plotted aound my veg patch.
