  • Peppermint tea

I've got a very healthy looking black peppermint plant growing in a container outside and was just wondering how you make peppermint tea with it? Does it have to be dried first? Or can you make some kind of infusion straight from the plant?

A few leaves infused in hot water? That's how I'd do it, when you say 'black peppermint' what variety is it?

Just cut off a couple of 'sprigs', rinse them off, put them into your mug, add boiling water and let them steep for about 5 mins.

The label on it has Mentha x piperita "Black Peppermint"

I really object to the way plant marketing companies give old varieties fancy new names. All this practice does is confuse the gardener. You Black Peppermint is normal peppermint. It is a native hybrid of water mint and regular spearmint and is darker and hairier than either parent.

            Rant over.............do enjoy your infusion.

You should try some Melissa tea next (lemon balm).

... and Sage tea if you have a sore throat.

Yes, I've got some 'black peppermint', and some 'morrocan mint' - I was questioning rana's rant.

Black peppermint is just plain old 'peppermint'.
