  • Mint rust

after trying desperately to get the mint to grow properly in my garden (yes i know!!!) it has finally taken off after neighbour cut down a massive eucalyptus in his garden. It is useless after a few months though as it has developed what I reckon must be mint rust. Holey yellow speckled leaves and a very sick looking plant.

What should I do, it seemsm as though I will have to dig it up ( not easy as the rhizomes go under a concrete path, it has been there for years)

Chop it down and leave it, see how it goes

Although rust is a 'soil-borne' fungal growth, It does sometimes help to cut back to ground level, and the new growth is disease free.

Got to be worth a try.

If it's any comfort I also kill mint regularly. Hope it grows back nicely for you!

i planted mint in a pot and was about to plant something else in there after deciding it had died but low and behold it has come through! ppl say some things are easy to grow ...my garden disagrees
I value my garden more for being full of blackbirds than of cherries,
and very frankly give them fruit for their songs.
