I just gotta start this off about my best herb as I have just made some pesto from scratch for the first time ever (Jamie Oliver's recipe) and I can't believe how good it was compared to the little jars you buy! So my best herb ever is basil (at the moment) - what is yours and why?

I love rosemary, lemon thyme and basil to cook with. But too hard to choose - love 'em all really.
S.N./Ann - I hear that Vietnamese Coriander is much easier to grow than the usual. Mine ALWAYS fails and I'm going to try this next. Have you found it easier?I don't roll on Shabbos

Sage. I love it and can use it in just about anything (except puddings!) Strangely my sister can't stand it - and we grew up eating the same stuff.Whoever plants a garden believes in the future.

To smell I adore rosemary!! Currently have a sprig taking in a pot on the balcony.
I also love basil, we had some pesto with the basil growing outside on sunday, was amazing! I think it was also using the Jamie Oliver recipe.The loud wind never reached the ship,
Yet now the ship moved on !
Beneath the lightning and the Moon
The dead men gave a groan.
They groaned, they stirred, they all uprose,
Nor spake, nor moved their eyes ;
It had been strange, even in a dream,
To have seen those dead men rise.

I'd love to say rosemary too, for my roast vegetables, but currently I'm really into my mojitos, so mint wins it for me!Current Executive Board Members at Ollietopia Inc:

French Tarragon, I don't actually use it much in comparison to things like mint and Rosemary, but the scent is beautiful and it's the only herb that I can pick a leaf and happily eat.Into each life some rain must fall........but this is getting ridiculous.

I love basil and recently got a little growing pot of 'Greek Basil' from W*itrose which is much bushier and has much smaller leaves. I'm going to pop it into a bigger pot today and see if I can get it to survive on the kitchen windowsill!
I like dill too which is something of a recent conversion for me as I really couldn't stand it until recently but I'm hooked now and love it with fresh fish and new potatoes... mmmm... I'm hungry now!

Basil for me too - grown in tomato grow bags, it's huge and luscious at the moment. Did you know you can freeze pesto in ice cube trays for use in the winter ?- brilliant to throw a cube or 2 into a pan of cooked and drained hot pasta on a wintery evening; easy peasy supper with memories of summer.
