  • herbs for shady window boxes?

    Hi.

I have 3 window boxes, one of which gets a bit of sun in the morning, but then reverts to shade, and the other two that are in shade all day (and very sheltered).

Are there any herbs or flowers that you would recommend for them?

I managed to get a bit of coriander to grow in the sunnier one this year, but wondered if anyone could give me a bit of expert advice

    Thanks.

Well done with the corriander. I've found that it doesn't like a shady position and bolts almost immediately where I've tried to grow it.
I'd be interested in the answer to this as I have a whole bed that runs along the north side of a fence that would be handy to get some herbs in and a similarly sheltered window sill.

My parsley is in shade after around 11ish and it seems to do fine.

Most of the perennial herbs will grow in the shade ie:- Rosemary, Sage, Chives, Garlic Chives, Thyme or you could grow hostas they have beautiful leaves and sweet flowers on long stalks, I'm sure you'll get a lot more advice.

I've got sage and oregano growing very happily in flower buckets and they're in the shade all the time.
