    Ginger

Has anyone tried growing ginger from a root bought from the supermarket. I have read it can be done but has anyone done it?
    Slowly takes it!

Lesley, there is a sticky on the Herb forum started by Ginger Ninger on how to grow ginger. A fair few Grapes are trying it, my ginger has shoots about 5 inches high and going strong.

Oh no! I forgot all about this. Bah. I did try this earlier last year but got nada. Where would I get really fresh ginger? We don't have an Asian supermarket nearby.

I wants a gingerplant, that would make a fabulous houseplant (I don't believe in non-edibles, lol).

                    • Thanks anyway Jeanied. I did see your post somewhere else which is what reminded me of this one - but didn't want to snatch =o)

I've got some ginger coming from Ocado tomorrow so hopefully it'll still have some spark of life in it. Otherwise, I might start roaming supermarkets again (last year it was for Morrison's flower buckets).

                        • Thanks Jeanie. Will inspect my ginger tomorrow. They're usually a bit on the old side though, alas.

I have towers of those buckets around the side of my house from my obsession with them last year! They were supposed to be 8 for 99p but they were giving me up to 22 for 99p. What's a girl to do?

                            • WELL, I don't know what went wrong but my original piece of ginger died ....

....BUT...dew to the generosity of a fellow ginger grower who I will name "Jeanie", I'm back in the saddle so to speak YAY! So with luck I'll be able to join in the fun that is "Ginger growing"

                              • Have searched for the last 2 months in supermarkets & asian grocers and have had a few with likely looking white bumps in my fruit bowl next to the bananas for 3 weeks but have still had no luck.
