  • Plain Naan bread herb??????

I like the black seeds in Naan bread which taste of aniseed! Different schools of thought proclaim them to be Dill,Fennel,Caraway or Cumin seeds?

Anyone have a definitive answer? Also would I be alright adding whatever seeds they are to a white bread mix for the breadmaker?

Lots of questions I know, but you knowledgeable lot will surely point me in the right direction!

Will have to physically seperate the black seed next time I have a naan and have a munch!

Bit obvious this but what does the ingredients list say? Or if you're in a restaurant ask them.

You should be able to get Nigella (by all her many names!) in any Asian supermarket Snadge.

Snadge I'm pretty certain the black seeds are probably cardamom seeds - taken out of the green pods.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Look that's rubbish - they are kalonji seeds - do some googling.

Edit - as well I've just been online shopping at Tesco's - they list all the products ingredients - check out their plain naans - kalonji seeds!
