Hi does anyone have any tried and tested recipes for a good face and/or eye cream/toner? Something that works well and doesn't cost the earth like all the creams you get in the shops.
Cheers

I've made up a eye treatment thingy which is meant to be good for perking up tired eyes and minimising dark circles. Think I got the recipe out a magazine and it made by simply crushing half a dozen mint leaves and strain the juice into 1tsp of almond oil and 1/2 tsp of honey. Mix together and dab a small amount under your eyes when you go to bed. Not a miracle cream but quite nice and very natural.

I use a recipe that contains Aloe Vera and Glycerine all the time. Just mix 1/2 cup aloe vera with 1/8 cup of glycerine )sorry it's from an American book. And thats it, keeps for 4 months out of the fridge.
You can add your favourite essential oil for a nice smell.
However save bothering with all those cups I just mix a tube of aloe vera gel, 500 ml, with enough glycerine to make a silky mix.
Very cheap, the aloe vera costs £4.99 from Holland and Barrett and Glycerine about £1.50 from the chemists. This lasts me for ages in the winter but in the summer when I'm slathering it on it lasts about a month.
Now what I want is a toothpaste recipe!
best wishes
Sue
Thanks Sue. Never tried them but a book I have reccomends these teeth treatments,
STRAWBERRY TOOTH BRIGHTENER
1 ripe strawberry
1/2 baking powder
Crush the strawberry n mix with baking powder. Using a soft toothbrush paint the mixture on your teeth. Allow to 'set' for 5mins and brush thoroughly to remove the mixture and rinse well with water.
HERBAL TOOTH POWDER
100g kaolin powder
100g bicarb soda
10g dried raspberry leaf
5g dried herbs (mint, sage or fennel)
5g dried myrrh powder
5g dried yellow dock
5 drops essential oil (peppermint, sage or sweet fennel depending on what herbs you've chosen)
mix kaolin n bicarb, pulverise the herbs. Add the other dry ingredients and whisk together using a metal whisk to keep air in the mixture. Add the essential oil and whisk some more. Cover the bowl with a clean towel and leave overnight. Whisk again and decant into a sterilised bottle. Tap a little mixture onto your toothbrush and use in place of toothpaste.
Thanks Alison, do you add any water to the mint leaves? How easy/difficult was it to extract the mint juice?
The "recipe" didn't mention water, just said to use a mortar and pestle but I didn't really get much out so I added a few drops of warm water, left it for about five minutes and tried again and that seemed to help.

Cheers Alison, look forward to trying that once the mint starts growing again. Wonder if peppermint essential oil, diluted in a nice light carrier oil would have similar results? ?
Place beeswax, jojoba, rosehip and apricot oils in a double boiler. Heat very gently to melt wax. Stir well, remove from heat. Slowly stir in remaining ingredients.Pour into a sterilized 2.5 oz jar, put on lid & place in fridge until set. Makes a small 2.5 oz jar. Use under eyes in the morning and evening.
Enjoy x
