  • What else?!?

    Hi all,
I am keen to grow lots of herbs but wondered if anyone could offer any suggestions of something unusual/complimentary to go with the ones I have:

    Huge sage
    Huge Rosemary (3 infact)
    Loads Lavender
    Mint
    chocolate mint,
    red pirella
    mace
    eau de cologne
    hyssop
    lemon tymne
    bay
    basil
    parsley
dill (these 3 are currently indoors)
I have also sown some sweet cecily, lovage
    and lemon balm
I am getting a lemon verbena cutting sometime too.

    Anything else recommended?
    Thanks

Oregano or marjoram, always useful for pasta dishes.

How's about Salad Burnett? I like a bit chopped up and added to eggs before scrambling them.

I tend to have an ordinary thmye as well as lemon thyme.

I am hoping to get some majoram this year too.

What about a curry plant? You can use it in some curry dishes, and smells lovely if you rub the leaves.

Bergamot is my favourite. Easy to grow, lovely orangy smell from leaves and flowers are like giant pink/red spiders! The oils in the leaves are so pungent I can smell the bergamot bed from 10 foot away......brilliant!

A few leaves dropped in with a tea bag + boiling water, give a very good Earl Grey substitute!

French tarragon. Buy a bag of fresh stalks from your local supermarket, and use the tips for cuttings. They root quite easily.

It is a semi-hardy plant, so I keep mine in pots.

My two new favourite herbs to grow are fenugreek and claytonia [winter purslane].....one for the fantastic smelling seeds and one for the gorgeous leaves and flowers - very pretty

As an perennial defo to fennel, lovely and feathery, graceful really in a breeze. Leaves are graet with fish or chopped on sone courgettes fried in butter. Seeds are great too. Best of all it keeps coming back every year.

How about angelica too. Thats lovely. Does it count as a herb tho? Not sure?

Sure does. It's a great feature plant at the back of an ornamental border too, for those of us who dabble with flowers beds.
