  • What's this plant?

I was told that this was Purple Sage. I'm sure it isn't because it doesn't taste of sage. Can anyone tell me what it is?

I'm assuming it is an herb of some kind because it came out of an herb garden.

Leaves don't really look like sage to me, and my purple sage doesn't have yellow flowers. Sorry I can't help with a positive ID.

How strange - unusual combo, yellow flowers with purple leaves.
Try lysimachia ciliata - that may be the one.
      Not a herb though!
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

I wouldn't eat it, whatever it is.
        Sage leaves are slightly furry/fuzzy

We have a match! It's lysimachia ciliata purpurea. Now I know what it is I can decide what to do with it.

It's a lovely plant. I love all loosestrifes and this one is a classy variety if ever I saw one. I've only seen it once.

I saw it referred to as loosestrife on one website but when I looked up loosestrife the ones coming up were completely different so I figured that it was an error. I've heard of loosestrife before but I can't figure out where. Perhaps I've another plant that also goes by that name.

I have purple loosestrife in the garden & in the pond even though it's more pink than purple & looks nothing like yellow loosestrife or the pretty one you've got Joe. I'd keep yours, it's lovely, but just move it out of your herb patch!
                              Here's my 'pink' purple loosestrife.
