A bay stump with a load of saplings shooting from the base?

I'm confused (yes in life too) by the colour of the stem and leaves, they're not typically grey and dark green but wonder if it's because they are so very yound.

When I break a leaf open it has the same aroma of a friends bay, and I've been told the stump used to be a massive bay tree before it was cut down to make way for her OH van (ejit) so.......

Yes it's a bay, shoots are reddish when young. Enjoy! (they grow massive!)

I just googled 'Guru' for you G4 & I think you definitely qualify regardless of whether you have to google or not because you help to enlighten everyone & guide them to the right answer!
