In the school gardening club I run I'd like to do two "projects" with lavender, but need some advice. I've been asked to plant some large lavender plants in the main playground to decorate it - how late into the year can I do this (the club doesn't start until October)?

I'd also like to take some cuttings of a lavender plant and have the children grow them on (to sell in our Spring plant sale). Again, will October be too late for that?

You should be OK planting lavender in October, provided it's not frosty. Taking cuttings is best done June - September, see link here Herbs - taking lavender cuttings | How to | Projects | BBC Gardeners' World but it's worth a try in October.

Thanks for the advice. I think I might make some lavender cuttings now and then have the children try their own in October. Try to hedge our bets a bit.
