Sling a load of mixed herbs into hot running water then sit in the green soup for half an hour! Looks like puke but leaves the skin like a babies bottom!

If you are a total muppet and get badly sunburned, paint olive oil on the blister/scabs - it keeps them soft and you don't get scars - DO NOT GO OUT IN THE SUN WITH OLIVE OIL ON YOUR SKIN. Olive oil good for all sorts of scabs for the same thing - stops them crusting up and coming off too soon.

One way to make a "milky" bath thingy is to add herbs etc to oats and tie up in muslin, then suspend it under the hot tap while running the bath.

The easiest way to make a cream is to warm oil with added beeswax (about 5g beeswas to 30ml oil - or slightly less for a softer cream) then beat in your herb extracts. If you are using a water based extract you will need to warm this as well using slightly less volume than the oil. I'll dig out more precise instructions. You could make the "extract" in this case by infusing the leaves in hot water.

The only problem with this method is getting the beating right or it will separate. A cream like this will only keep a few months even in the fridge.

To get "phytols" infuse flower heads or pounded herbs in a suitable oil. Good examples are calendula, lavender, st john's wort. Suitable oils are sunflower, apricot kernel - the lighter ones. If you have something specific in mind and would like to add essential oils pm or email me with some details and any health considerations and I'll make some suggestions and also suggest the best places to buy.

          Milk and Honey Bath

I made this the other day - lovely!

          2 litres full fat milk
          350g honey

Put the above into a saucepan and warm through gently. Add the mixture to your bath water and mix well.

(I also added a few drops of my favourite bath oil). It was lovely - I felt like Cleopatra!

            Nourishing lavender hand cream

            3 tblsp beeswax granules
            4 tblsp almond oil
            4 tblsp coconut oil
            6 tblsp glycerine
            6 drops lavender oil

Mix the beeswax granules with the almond and coconut oils in a bowl and place over a pan of simmering water until the wax melts. Stir thoroughly and add the glycerine drop by drop.
Remove the mixture from the heat and continue stirring until its texture becomes creamy. Stir in the lavender oil and transfer to a small pot with a lid. Seal and store in a cool place. Lovely! Bernie

              Moisturising night cream for hands

A life saver! Put this on and then put on a pair of cotton gloves before you go to bed - wake up in the morning with lovely soft hands!

              55g honey
              115g lanolin
              50ml almond oil

Warm honey in a bowl, over a pan of simmering water and stir in lanolin. Mix well. When the mixture is cool, stir in the almond oil. Keep in a sealed pot or jar.

Bernie they are fantastic. I like to make the odd thing sow ill give something from above a go when I have time during the school holidays.

My fav quickie (not quite herbs I know) is to stuff a sock full of porridge oats and run it under the hot tap of your bath. It's very very moisturising and milky. It great for soothing eczema, chickenpox etc too.

Try lavender and lemon balm for something relaxing. Sore muscles try rosemary and lavender. Bad cold and chesty cough try hyssop and sage. Or rose petals (scented obviously) and a bit of cinnamon stick for something a little different.

Experiment and see what you find most enjoyable.

Hi - You could try pouring boiling water over a good handful of rosemary leaves, leave overnight, strain and use as a natural shampoo - excellent for the scalp : Because you're worth it : )

for sunburn aches and pains, and this works realy well!!! put half cup of BROWN vinegar in a warm-hot bath, and soak, it works from the start. no need to buy the expensive stuff in Boots that dont even work.
Brown Vinegar has many uses including to break a babys' fever if you put it on the wrists, ankles, behind the ears. It does work, but not always, ive done it many times with success on my children, severe cases, see the doctor, but worth a try at first.
vinegar can also be used to unblock your shower head of limescale.
                              etc, etc.
for shiny hair and itchy scalp, like greenlung says, put ROSEMARY drops in your shampoo.
                              Best Wishes
                              Happy Growing
