i bought some sprigs of sage from tescos reduced section a week ago i stripped 2 of them of most of the leaves just leaving the top 2 and placed in a glass of water they seem healthy enough my question is will they grow roots and will i be able to plant them on or am i wasting my time

Well, as you've got the sage, may as well try, - but usually sage cuttings are taken and grown on in late spring / early summer from soft wood cuttings.

Try putting a few into compost as well as some in water. You may have more luck in compost - that's how I do mine.

Thanks - this has answered my question about sage and how to root it from cuttings.

Viki, you need to do two.

I'm gonna try this too. I have a sage bush in the garden but it's one of those shrubs that need to be trimmed regularly to keep it in good shape and with lots of new shoots.

I've been trying to grow some from seed, without much luck, so this is the next one to try

Sage!, my bush just gets leggy and bare lower down (no smirking!), probably caused by shade from buddleia globosa, I should move it to a sunnier spot but I have been thinking that for a few years
Eat well, live well, drink moderately and be happy (hic!)
