  • Pricking Out Basil

Plant at same level, or can I sink it? It's really healthy and about an inch high. Can't remember what I did last year and although when searching I can find lots of info, I haven't found an answer to this. I'm not sure if the stems will rot if I sink them?

I've managed to root basil in small glasses of water Flo, so the stems will produce roots. I would think sink them so the bottom leaves are just above the level of the compost.

Why not try each way and check the result? I would plant deep, don't try and transplant before the true leaves are showing and only pick the basil seedlings up by a coteledon (seed leaf) if still on the plants. Cheers, Tony.

Thanks RL and Tony, off to do it now in the kitchen 'cause it's belting it down outside!

I've just done a few into a bowl and I've realised I've got hundreds of them. I really want to plant them with my toms so I'd better find some modules to put them in. Raincoat going on.

Sorry to be a pain, but have either of you done Fennel in modules? Packet says to sow direct, but I never have much success with direct sowing of stuff.

I got the free packet of Fennel seeds with this month's GYO, and I'm going to try sowing in modules. It will either work or it won't
