Parsley question

Hello all, I'm new to the forum and new to growing my own!

Well, I have tried growing my own in limited space with varying degrees of success but this year I thought I'd ask for advice.

So basically, I have a question about parsley. I repotted a flat-leafed parsley plant into a bigger pot (which also contains curly parsley and thyme) and it has flourished. BUT, it is now covered in greenflies! And, I mean covered!

I have a couple of other parsley plants in individual pots away from the greenfly infested one, and they're fine. No pesky greenflies whatsoever!

So, could anyone tell me why one plant is completely infested, and the others are fine? I keep spraying it but it's so infested.

It probably got infected when it was young and since the aphids don't fly much, they are happy on the one plant. I presume these plants are indoors. They are fine outside and I would throw the infested plant away. Are you sure you want to spray the leaves of a plant you want to eat?

Unable to provide a reason for your parsley being infested but i would urge you not to spray anything on it unless it is water or a very mild soap and water mix. Thoroughly rinse the parsley if you decide to eat it afterwards. Is it outdoor or indoor? Mine is outdoor and haven't experienced this so can't be much help. Sorry.

Has the greenfly spread onto the curly parsley in the same pot? If not, why not?

Ah, I didn't clarify - I sprayed with water and soap mix just to shoot the buggers off! I know better than to spray edibles with pesticides.

They're outdoors, and VC it's a good question.. that's why I posted! The curly parsley is largely unaffected, a couple of greenflies here and there but absolutely nothing like the amount on the flat-leafed.

It's just quite mind-boggling really, has anyone else encountered anything like this? Did I do something wrong, or is it just one of those freak of natures things?

Is parsley quite susceptible to greenfly attacks, and should I watch the other plants?

It's not really, if you understand the lifecycle of the greenfly. It's only the adult winged form that move from plant to plant. They give birth to live young (wingless nymphs). Being wingless, they can't so easily move around, so they tend to stay put when the food is good

Your spraying isn't working, it's just giving them a little bath. You need to squish them in your fingers, and repeat as often as necessary, taking care not to crush the plant. If certain leaves are too badly infested, then remove those, and crush under your shoe

Keep an eye out for future infestations, and nip them in the bud: they go for soft sappy new growth, and plants are more susceptible if you pamper them or feed them too much
