I am probably in the wrong thread, but as Bay is a herb of sorts ....
My husband bought me a lovely lollipop bay tree in a second hand shop of all places. Alot of ts leaves are brown. Is bay hardy as I would like to plant it in the garden, in a sheltered position?

Yes it is hardy, but can suffer from windburn and very hard frosts.

Same happened to mine, it's growing from the base slowly so it'll be a bush in the future not a lollipop; I think the latter will suffer from frosts and windburn.

Same here, both my bays have brown leaves. Will cut them all off when all risk of frost is over - did this last year and the bay was just fine! It seemed to like the clipping!!!
