  • Borage flowering now, more sowings needed?

I haven't grown borage before but wanted to encourage insects to my beans and have it to add to comfrey tea. However, the borage is flowering now on quite small plants. Do I need to stick more seed in to coincide with the beans flowering or will it keep going? Will these little tiny plants get bigger after flowering as they are almost "neither use nor ornament" at the moment ie they won't contribute much to the comfrey brew.

The plant keeps on growing and flowering if it is happy. Then it will seed itself everywhere.
Whooops - now what are the dogs getting up to?

Just wanted to say - how right you were Jeanie. It's hard to believe the 4" high plants I was originally posted about have developed into this mass of bee filled jungle. The photo doesn't do the contrast in colour between the beans and borage justice (too sunny!!!! for once).

I'm really pleased with the borage VVG kindly sent to me. The plants are massive (I can see how it can become invasive), the flowers are quite beautiful, some pink amongst the blue and they are always full of bees.

I received some Borage seeds in a seed swap this year and planted 8 in between 2 rows of Strawberries at the allotment. They grew to about 5 foot and produced masses of flowers, they are permanently humming since they encourage masses of bees.I cut stems off to produce Borage tea and as a mulch for my tomatoes.
            They are a brilliant pollinator.

my borage plants are humming lots too, i accidently planted mine thinking they were turnip seeds ( yes i know they look nothing like them, my daughter decided to swap seedling labels round in the greenhouse in spring, so when i planted them out, and a plotter asked what i was growing and i pointed to my 'turnips' he laughed and said sorry love they aint turnips ) didnt realise they were so spikey though
