  • differences in lavender?

sorry if this sounds simple ( or makes me sound it) but can anyone tell me the difference between hidcote & munstead lavender? are the flowers really different etc?

also i have the remains of a lavender tree from our wedding (blasted winds blew it over in the winter & has killed off 3/4 of it, grrrrr) & that lavender seems to have serated edged leaves... can anyone tell me which lavender that is?

    Thanks for your help.

Munstead is fully hardy with narrow,
grey-green leaves and tiny blue flowers, while Hidcote has silver-
grey leaves and dense spikes of deep purple flowers.

Do you think the serrated one may be cotton lavender, Santolina chamaecyparissus?

A photo would help!! Cotton lavender is quite easy to identify - does your lavender have blue/purple or yellow flowers?

Or maybe second to last in RL's link......

              Lavandula Dentata "French Lavender"
              Early Summer
              Serrated leaf
              Dislikes winter wet
              Often used in container gardens

Kerry, lavender isn't a tree ... or do you mean a potted standard? (I'm wondering if it is lavender at all? Photo please !)

The one in this photo is French lavender (easy to spot, it has those bunny ears)

ill try & get photo up tomorrow although it will make you sad to see a poor plant in such a state after the wind beat it up. definately lavender. i know it isnt officially a tree as such... its just the way it had been grown. prefered it to bay trees for the entrance to our teepees for wedding. Oh & it has purple flowers (when it gets any).

Grown like in my photo you mean?

(I'm trying to think what you're thinking, in the absence of a photo we're all just making guesses )
