What do people think of this idea? I found it on fb and thought I might have a bash at it as I have some pallets out back I think I could rearrange into one of these, easy on the eye to x

I may be wrong, these always look great and at first I could have a go as well but, I have found with these tower type systems that the top layer always seems to dry out whilst the very bottom one ends up like a bog garden trying to keep the upper layers moist.
Hope I have missed the idea and it works for those that have one.

They look really attractive.

You can see what the basic components of the triangular one look like on this video which shows it being put together (store-bought kit).

Probably starting from scratch a square one would be easier to make.

You'd want to fill the centre up with something that isn't soil/compost though I'm guessing. That's be a LOT of compost otherwise...

That's what the company use as a selling point, that the plants get a lot more compost than they would in a pot, which I suppose is OK if you have no garden at all, just balcony or patio (it's a US product of course), but you're right, it looks as if it would hold an awful lot of compost. And then you'd never be able to move it once it was filled, so a "right place first time" job too.

Fill the inside with empty 2litre bottles, lighter and costs less to fill. I agree it looks attractive but you'd have to be careful and plant med herbs at the top and water loving herbs towards the bottom.

I thought to put another little bit wood on the inside sort of like a tray so it was completely empty inside and you had little trays going all the way round x

The more compost the better if the weathers at all warm so it doesnt dry out , but I would add a pipe in the center with holes drilled in and the bottom end blocked to let water out all the way down in the center, fill the pipe with stones so theres not too much in the pipe to fill it and water the pipe to water the whole thing, that way the water is in the center and doesnt need to soak from the top to bottom

Done this way the roots will grow towards the center to find the water giving a bigger healthier root system

If you water the plants at the edges or try to soak the top till the bottom layer is wet watering the plants directly not in the center you end up with a small root system in a big tub of wet compost

Seems nice. I still pref the rusting plant pots nailed o a wooden ladder effect.
