pricked/potted out thyme...

I (like my tarragon) propagated a whole packet of thyme seeds and ended up with an abundance of thyme seedlings. Due to having so many and them being tightly growing I've potted some out in a variety of ways. Guess my question is, which way is the proper way to do it. I'd normally put individual seedlings into individual pots but thyme almost looks like it doesn't branch out like other herbs.

Anyway heres a pic, let me know whats the best practice.

I have done it both ways. Single seedlings take an age to make clumps so I now put small clump of seedlings in each pot. That way you get a nice cushion quickly.

Your pots are too big for those little plants, smaller cells would have been better (too big a pot leads to waterlogging, sour soil and rotting roots.

Do you really want that many thyme plants? If not, just keep the best ones and compost the rest.

And they won't do well indoors, start hardening them off and get them outside asap

Yeah well thats what I was half asking, Never grown it before and hadn't seen any signs of branching yet so I mean, it almost looks like one thyme plant one sprig, which I'm guessing isn't the case but its certainly not as obvious as other herbs so wasn't sure on how many plants I actually want to get a good regular crop on thyme.

So would I have been better putting the number I did in the big pots into the smaller red pots (I don't have smaller accept my propagotor trays)

No, don't bother. Harden them off, then get them planted out in the garden, following the spacing suggested on the seed pack

Aye they are in the garden, right before the monsoon downpour we had here in edinburgh, the day after the scorching rain lol, i'm sure they'll be fine though!
