Planting fennel bulbs

Hi all. I'm new to the forum, so please forgive me if I've duplicated anything already discussed.

I want to know if its possible to get a fennel bulb growing after the roots have been sliced off (from the grocery store.)

I've read that it is possible but I can't find the website with the info.
