Letting coriander go to seed?

have some coriander and have let it flower, will it have set seed already, know this sounds daft but have what look like little coriander plants 20' across the garden?

Do you mean you let the coriander go to seed last year. If so, then yes you probably have coriander coming up about the place. If in doubt , taste it and see. Enjoy.

That happened to me the other year - I couldn't beleive how many seeds come from one plant - and also how many germinate when just left to it - far better rate than me growing in pots!!

I LOVE coriander seeds in cooking! When I let them go to seed I collect and use the seeds. So sadly, I never get the free plants! Can't win 'em all.

If I want to let some of my coriander go to seed and be able to collect the seeds and use them, what do I do?

Do I just let it flower and then collect the flower heads?

Wait until the flower heads start drying out and a few seeds are starting to fall off - cut off the flower head, stick it in a bag and shake. The seeds should fall off, if not scrunch the flower head in your hand to release the seed.

Parsley also seems to grow better from plants that are allowed to self-seed.

Hi All,

This will be a bit different... If you wish to germinate your coriander, don't forget to gently split them up. By doing so it will germinates sooooo much beter than letting the seed intact. ( 1 round coriander seed encapsulated 2 to 3 little seed ). I do encorage everybody to grow coriander and parsley, they attract our dear friend "Lady bugs".

I grew some Coriander down one edge of my Asparagus bed last summer, which went to seed, and because I had a tent cloche over that bed early in the New Year, all these little coriander seedlings started to appear - how early was that?! Most of the seedlings got eaten by keel slugs) but more started germinating a while later, and I have this very afternoon cut the equivalent of 3 shop-size-bunches of fresh leaves to add to the enormous vat of Black Turtle Bean, Aubergine, Leek & Braising Steak Chilli that I've just made for the freezer, and you've just reminded me now that I've neglected to add the leaves in the final stages of cooking (so many thanks!)

Don't you just love free herbs?! They cost a fortune in the shops.....

yes, I agree I have them here and there to serve their purpose
I read it somewhere, if coriander planted close to fennel, it will prevent fennel to seed .
