  • My Rosemary cuttings are dying!

Last week I planted some Rosemary cuttings in the ground and in pots but they look like they are dying and drying out. I've been misting their leaves twice a day, maybe I should stop the misting? Maybe give them a small boost and mist with some seaweed?

Did you put a bag over the cuttings? Recently I removed a bag from my cuttings as I was being impatient and wanted to see if they were growing, I forgot to put the bag back and the cuttings dried out really quickly and then died.

When you say cuttings, had they grown roots or were they fresh cuttings?

And did you take them from fresh growth or old wood?

Rosemary cuttings root really easily in a glass of water on the kitchen windowsill. When you see the roots you can then pot up.

Rustylady, can this also be done with lavender? Do you need any of that rooting chemical in the water?

No chemical needed Andypandi. I haven't tried lavender, but it's worth a go.

It's been found to be a waste of time & money. You don't need it.

You shouldn't need a plastic bag (cloche) for the drier Mediterranean type cuttings (pelargoniums, lavender, rosemary).

I took healthy new sprigs, there was no cover though, I guess that's where I had gone wrong. I'll try both the plastic bag method and water method

Do you have to bring Rosemary in for the winter?

Hello RainbowStorm and welcome to the vine - no, in the UK rosemary is winter hardy. Of course if you're not in the UK we need to know where you are...

No, but don't let it get wet feet.
