Leaf Celery

I just wondering if anyone grows leaf celery? I can't be bothered with the hassle of growing the stem type, but I quite like the idea of some leaf celery from time to time.

Grew from seed last year. Very poor germination and those that did limped on for a few weeks then died. I'm going to try again this year though!

Lovage has a celery like flavour and grows like wildfire - I have to really keep an eye on it in my garden so it doesn't try taking over the corner it's in. We are also trying a leaf celery this year.

Whereas lovage is brilliant, and grows up to 6 feet, Celery Leaf is also good. I have a plant from last year that hasn't even died dowm, and in fact, is larger now than last summer. It doesn't need a huge amount of sun either.

I grew Celery leaf. It grew into a "triffid". Great in salads. It even overwinters ok!
Go for it!!

I grow Parcel every year for winter soups and stews - except the very young leaves it's a bit too strong for salads IMO

I've grown celery leaf In containers on windowsills before I used it young as a herb to flavour my soups and casseroles as my other half hates celery I'd just cut some leaf and add a bit to mine never tried outside as I didn't have a garden then

It's going to have to remain on my list of things to try growing eventually, as I realised that I've only got a half plot at the allot. and lots of plans!

It has worked well for me on a north west facing window sill, grows all year round and is a great addition to soups and stews. It gets snipped regularly so never gets out of hand and seems to be about the best thing to grow in my windows that get a quick glimse of the sun before it sets, garlic chives seem to do ok there as well.

I love this herb. Overwinters very well in my sheltered sunny herb bed, so it's always there when parsley isn't an option. When it gets too bushy, I just hack it back a bit and it doesn't mind in the slightest.

It's very tasty used finely chopped in scrambled eggs (I think it should also be good in egg salad or quiche - though haven't tried it here.)

Use it to make up a batch of pesto when basil is out of season (particularly good used in pasta salad IMO.)

Also goes well with broad beans and peas as an alternative to mint.

And of course also a good all round stewing herb.

It does have a strong flavour, so best to use judiciously until you know how much you like it! And I would pair it with rich or earthy backdrops that it can provide a 'lift' to, as it could potentially overpower subtler flavours.

I'm trying to grow some leaf celery from seed at the moment - it's germinated but is quite slow growing so far and I think I've lost a few seedlings. Feeling hopeful though...

They've been in the trays for a month - indoors until they germinated and outdoors since. Not all germinated, you can see that they're a bit patchy, but they look ok, I think.
