Herbs for north facing hot kitchen windowsill

Wondering what herbs would do well in the kitchen window as obviously the mint isn't liking it there.
Sucks because I would like it to be in the kitchen as one of my most used things (have two mint and honey teas a day)
I uses rosemary quite a lot, would that do well in a hot kitchen on north facing windowsill?

I've never had success with any herbs indoors, but that might just be me. You could grow it outside and just bring in a selection when you need it, you can freeze herbs in ice cube trays and then just to what you are cooking.

Rosemary will grow very large, into a bush! So I think best outside.

What's wrong with keeping it on your balcony? Rosemary is definitely an outside plant. Basil is good indoors but to be honest most plants struggle with dark nights. They need light to grow as well as warmth. Too much warmth and not much sunlight gives very leggy plants.

It's just a pain as the balcony = going through three rooms. I'm a very disorganised cook always making stuff up so I like thing to be in arms reach, like mint... Flat mate had it outside easy to open kitchen window right by the kettle in my old place... Made making a cuppa a whole lot quicker, and also made her happy I kept the mint down lol.

Just like to be able to grab things quick plus kinda want the kitchen window to look nice.

Anything at all that will do well in a north facing window?
It is completely unopstructed view so it's as light as north facing can get

You'll probably have more luck when the days get longer! I keep basil and coriander on my window sil during their growing months. Mint and rosemary are always outside

I've got a north-facing kitchen too - basil, coriander, parsley all work for me after about early April. Plus orchids which don't seem to really care where they are.

Mint and rosemary aren't happy indoors I find. The mint goes white and powdery. Ewwwww.

The kitchen is so hot because for some reason it has a massive radiator, the heating is broken at the moment so I have it on all the time or off with no inbetween and a stuck thermostat. The radiators are OLD and can only control temp via thermostat not on rads *sigh* getting anything wrong fixed takes AGES because all owned by coop so goes through flats agent, to building agent, through several departments at coop then back again

Guess ill just have to wait till its not a little boiler room, I like the orchid idea even though its not edible, they pretty :-)

Maybe, if its that hot, you cud grow grow ur herbs outside, cut them, tie them and hang them up in ur kitchen to dry them ?

You need to get them growing first

Can't bear rooms too hot, and it must be costing you a fortune

the rest of the flat is fine, just that bloomin kitchen lol would prop the door open but the hall way is now the baby rabbits run untill they are allowed to mix unsupervised

not that keen on drying herbs but i spose i may have to or end up with masses of surplus

Grow the herbs outside, but cut sprigs and keep them fresh in water on your windowsill for a few days. Mint and others will root in the water too so you'll have some extra plants.

Another idea for you Kirstie, get your herbs growing well first, then cut a little selection at the beginning of your week, make up several little bunches, tie the ends, Fresh Bouquet Garni!

Really, no. I've tried various things on all our windows, and it's only the north ones that are a complete failure.
I tell a lie: they grow moss really well
